Meteorological seasons are based on the annual temperature cycle and climatological patterns observed on Earth. Our summers are warm, our autumns brisk and sunny, our winters mild and our springs are blooming with dogwoods and azaleas. Meteorological winter (in the Northern Hemisphere) starts on December 1 and ends on February 28 (or 29). To the north, the Mountains region experiences light snowfall several times a year while other regions, especially those south of the Atlanta Metro, rarely see snow. This corresponds to the months of December, January and February in the Northern Hemisphere, and June, July and August in the Southern Hemisphere. Begging the question in Denver, Colorado when does.
